The Sphinx Who Loved Spinach
Lily loved water but feared the deep end of the pool. Every swimming lesson, she'd splash happily in the shallow water, but when her teacher said it was time to swim toward the deep end, Lily's stomach would twist into knots.
One afternoon after her lesson, Lily sat by the pool's edge, dipping her toes in the cool water. Something magical happened—a sparkly green sphinx with emerald eyes appeared beside her! The sphinx had the body of a friendly lion and wings like a dragonfly.
"I've been watching you, little swimmer," said the sphinx in a voice like wind chimes. "I'm Sprout, the pool guardian. But I have a problem."
Lily's eyes widened. "A sphinx! What kind of problem?"
Sprout sighed. "I love swimming, but I'm too weak to stay underwater for long. My grandmother sphinx told me that spinach from the magical garden would give me strength, but I'm afraid to try it. What if it tastes awful?"
Lily giggled. "I love spinach! My grandma grows it in her garden. It's not scary at all."
"And I'm afraid of the deep end," Lily admitted. "But you're not scared of swimming there."
Sprout's eyes twinkled. "What if we try each other's fears together? I'll help you swim to the deep end, and you'll help me taste the spinach?"
Hand in paw (well, paw in wing), they faced their fears. Lily took a deep breath and swam toward the deep end with Sprout gliding beside her. The sphinx's magical glow lit up the water like an underwater rainbow. When Lily reached the deep end, she gasped—it was beautiful!
Then they visited the magical garden where Sprout took a tiny bite of spinach. His face lit up. "It's delicious! And I feel stronger already!" Sprout did a happy spin in the air.
That day, Lily learned that sometimes the things we fear aren't scary at all—they're just adventures waiting to happen. And Sprout learned that trying new things can lead to wonderful discoveries.
From then on, Lily swam fearlessly in the deep end, and Sprout became the strongest swimmer in the pool. Best of all, they remained best friends, proving that courage and friendship can make anything possible—especially when you face your fears together.
