The Sphinx Who Loved Papaya
Lily peeked through the fence at her new neighbor's backyard. She couldn't believe her eyes—a magnificent golden sphinx was floating in the **swimming** **pool**, its lion body splashing happily while its human head laughed at the sun.
"Hello there!" called the sphinx, shaking water from its long flowing **hair**. "I'm Cleo, and I'm celebrating my first time in a **pool**! It's wonderful!"
Lily's eyes went wide. "You're... you're a sphinx! From Egypt! What are you doing here?"
Cleo smiled mysteriously. "I travel wherever there's magic and new friendships. Speaking of which..." She reached behind her ear and pulled out a glowing orange fruit. "Would you like some **papaya**? It's my favorite treat after a good swim."
Lily hesitated. She'd never tried papaya before. And she'd certainly never met a sphinx.
"I don't know how to swim," Lily admitted quietly. "I'm scared of the water."
Celo's golden eyes softened. "Everyone feels afraid sometimes. But the best adventures happen when we're brave enough to try new things."
The sphinx swam to the pool's edge and held out her paw. "Join me? The water feels like warm honey. And I'll share my papaya—sweet, sunny magic for both of us."
Lily looked at the sparkling water, then at Cleo's encouraging smile. She thought about all the things she missed because she was afraid. Slowly, she reached out and took the sphinx's paw.
The water did feel like warm honey! Cleo stayed right beside her, teaching her to kick and float. When Lily finally **swimming** across the pool on her own, she felt like she could fly.
They ate juicy papaya together under the stars, laughing and talking until bedtime. Lily learned that courage doesn't mean not being scared—it means being scared but doing something anyway.
"Come back tomorrow?" Cleo asked.
"Every day!" Lily promised.
And she did, discovering that the best magic of all was finding a friend who helped her be brave.
