The Sphinx Who Loved Padel

Leo was a curious orange cat who lived next door to a mysterious garden. One afternoon, he crept through a hole in the fence and discovered something magical.

In the center of the garden stood a crystal pool, its water shimmering like liquid diamonds. Around it grew seven palm trees, their fronds whispering secrets in the breeze.

Suddenly, the water rippled. A creature emerged—a sphinx with the body of a lion and the wings of an eagle, but instead of a human face, she wore the friendly smile of someone who loved to laugh.

"Greetings, small furry friend," she said. "I am Cleo, guardian of the Magic Pool. Are you brave enough to answer my riddle?"

Leo puffed out his chest. "I'm very brave! What's your riddle?"

Cleo's eyes twinkled. "What has four legs in the morning, two legs at noon, and three legs in the evening?"

Leo thought very hard. He remembered watching the old man next door walk with his cane in the evenings. "A human!" Leo cried. "A baby crawls on four legs, grown-ups walk on two, and old people use canes!"

"Correct!" Cleo cheered. "You're cleverer than most adventurers. Usually, they just stare and say 'uhh...'"

Then Cleo did something surprising. She pulled out a padel racket from behind her wing. "Would you like to play? I love padel, but it's been centuries since I had a worthy opponent."

Leo had never seen such a game! Cleo explained the rules, and they played against the garden wall. Leo used his paws like paddles, batting the ball back and forth. They laughed so hard that the palm trees shook their fronds with delight.

"You're a natural!" Cleo said. "For solving my riddle and bringing joy back to my garden, I grant you one wish."

Leo thought about catching mice or getting extra treats, but then he had a better idea. "I wish that every child and every cat could find a friend who makes them laugh as much as you make me laugh."

Cleo's eyes shone with happy tears. "That's the wisest wish anyone has ever made. Friendship is the greatest magic of all."

From that day on, Leo visited Cleo every week. They played padel under the palm trees, and Leo learned that the best adventures are the ones you share with friends—even if they're sphinxes who love surprising games.
