The Sphinx Who Loved Green
In the middle of the Magic Desert stood a small sphinx named Cleo. Unlike other sphinxes who loved riddles and golden treasures, Cleo loved something strange—she loved green, leafy spinach.
"Why spinach?" the other sphinxes would laugh, crunching on their gold nuggets. "Spinach is for rabbits!"
Cleo didn't care. Every morning, she tended to her secret garden behind the largest sand dune, where she grew the crispest, most delicious spinach in all the land.
One day, a little goldfish named Fin flopped into her garden. He had jumped from his bowl during a magic sandstorm and was gasping for water.
"Help!" Fin cried, his golden scales shimmering in the sun. "I can't breathe!"
Cleo rushed over. Instead of asking a riddle like most sphinxes would, she wrapped Fin gently in a large spinach leaf to keep him moist, then carried him all the way to the Oasis Pond.
"Thank you," Fin said, swimming happily. "Why didn't you ask me a riddle first?"
"Because helping friends is more important than playing games," Cleo said simply.
The next day, a terrible sandstorm threatened to destroy Cleo's beloved spinach garden. All the other sphinxes hid in their caves, protecting their gold.
But Fin remembered Cleo's kindness. He called all his fish friends, and together they splashed water from the oasis onto the garden, creating a magical shield that protected the spinach from the howling winds.
The storm passed, and the garden was safe.
"You saved my spinach!" Cleo cried, hugging Fin.
"You saved me first," Fin said with a smile.
From that day on, the other sphinxes learned something important: the best treasure isn't gold—it's the friends who help you, no matter how different you may be. And sometimes, the smallest fish and the leafiest spinach can teach the biggest lessons.
Cleo still loved her spinach, but she loved her friend Fin even more.
