The Sphinx Who Loved Games
Lily was walking near the old museum when she heard a splash. She peeked behind the big stone statue and gasped—a small sphinx was swimming in the fountain! He had golden fur, tiny wings, and bright blue eyes.
"Hello!" said Lily, not scared at all.
The sphinx climbed out, shaking water from his paws. "I'm Sammy! I've been swimming here for centuries, but you're the first friend who's ever seen me!"
Lily giggled. "I'm Lily. Want to play baseball? I have a ball in my backpack!"
Sammy's wings fluttered with joy. "I LOVE games! But what's baseball?"
Lily showed him how to hit the ball with a bat, but Sammy kept missing. "I'm not very good at this," he said sadly.
"That's okay!" Lily said kindly. "Everyone's good at different things."
Then she remembered her padel racket at home. "Wait—I have something better!"
They ran to Lily's house, and she showed Sammy how to play padel. The little sphinx was AMAZING! His paws were perfect for holding the racket, and he could jump super high with his wings.
"This is the BEST day ever!" Sammy cheered, hitting the ball back and forth with Lily.
They played until sunset, and Sammy taught Lily the ancient riddles of Egypt. Before leaving, he gave her a golden feather.
"Thank you for being my friend," Sammy said. "You taught me that trying new things is fun, even when you're not good at them at first. And you helped me find what I'm really good at!"
Lily hugged her magical friend. "That's what friends do!"
Every day after school, Lily and Sammy played padel together. And whenever they tried something new, they remembered: it's okay not to be perfect at everything—the fun is in trying together with a friend.
