The Sphinx Who Loved Baseball
Leo pulled his favorite red baseball cap down tight and stepped up to the plate. It was the bottom of the ninth inning, and his team was counting on him. But just as he swung his bat, something strange happened—the ball didn't fly through the air. Instead, it glowed golden and spun like a tiny tornado!
"Whoa!" Leo cried as the tornado sucked him right in!
When he opened his eyes, Leo wasn't at the baseball field anymore. Golden sand stretched in every direction, and towering above him stood an enormous pyramid made of sparkling stones. But the most amazing thing was the creature sitting beside it—a great sphinx with the body of a lion and the face of a kind, wise woman.
"Welcome, young champion," the sphinx purred gently. "I've been waiting for someone who loves baseball."
Leo's eyes widened. "You know about baseball?"
"I know many things," she said, then sighed. "But lately, I feel very weak. I've forgotten where I put my magic vitamin that keeps me strong enough to guard the pyramid's secrets."
Leo noticed the sphinx looked tired, her golden fur dull. "I can help you find it!"
The sphinx smiled. "First, you must answer my riddle: What has a diamond, runs in circles, and brings people together?"
Leo grinned. "That's easy—baseball!"
"Correct!" The sphinx's eyes sparkled. "Your magic vitamin is here." She tapped Leo's red hat. "It's not a pill you swallow. It's the joy of doing what you love with friends. That's what gives true strength!"
Leo understood. The magic wasn't in winning—it was in playing together.
"Thank you," the sphinx said, her fur turning golden and bright again. "Now, would you like to see the most amazing baseball game in history?"
She waved her paw, and suddenly Leo saw Egyptians playing baseball with glowing balls under the stars. "We invented it first," she winked.
"Cool!" Leo laughed.
When the golden tornado returned him to the baseball field, his teammates were cheering. "You hit the winning home run, Leo!"
Leo touched his red cap and smiled. Sometimes the best adventures happen when you least expect them—and true magic is friendship, fun, and helping others.
