The Sphinx Who Loved Baseball
Leo loved playing baseball in his backyard. Every afternoon, he'd practice hitting with his dad's old bat, dreaming of hitting home runs like his favorite players. But today was different.
Leo felt like a spy, sneaking around the old oak tree behind his house. He'd heard strange sounds—rumbling, magical sounds—and his detective instincts were tingling. Being a curious kid, he had to investigate.
What he found made his jaw drop. A magnificent creature sat behind the tree—a sphinx! She had the body of a lion and the head of a wise woman, with golden wings folded at her side.
"I've been watching you play," the sphinx said kindly. "Baseball looks like wonderful fun. Would you teach me?"
Leo couldn't believe it! A sphinx wanted to learn baseball?
The sphinx's name was Cleo, and she'd traveled through a magical cable—a shimmering silver thread that connected worlds. She'd come from a land where creatures played games under starlight, but she'd never seen anything like baseball.
Leo taught Cleo how to hold the bat, how to swing, and how to catch. She was surprisingly good! Her lion paws were gentle but strong, and her wise eyes calculated every pitch perfectly.
Soon, other magical friends appeared through the shimmering cable. There were friendly zombies who loved doing the zombie dance between innings. They weren't scary at all—they just groaned happily when Cleo hit the ball!
"I have an idea," Leo said. "Let's play zombie tag! If a zombie tags you, you have to dance like one!"
Everyone laughed and played until sunset. The sphinx taught them magical riddles, the zombies taught silly dances, and Leo taught them baseball. They became the best of friends.
That night, Leo learned something wonderful: the best adventures come from being curious and making friends with everyone, no matter how different they might seem. And sometimes, the most magical things are hiding just behind the trees in your own backyard.
