The Sphinx Who Loved Baseball

Emma loved summer days, especially when she could go swimming at the old beach near her house. Her fluffy orange cat, Mango, always followed her, padding through the sand like a tiny, determined explorer.

One hot afternoon, while Mango chased seagulls near the water, Emma noticed something strange. Half-buried in the sand was a stone creature with the body of a lion and the head of a human. It had wings! Emma gasped—she knew what this was. A sphinx!

"Greetings, young one," the sphinx spoke in a voice like gentle waves. "I have slept for centuries, dreaming of games and laughter. My favorite game was called 'ball-and-stick' in ancient times. Does anyone still play?"

Emma's eyes lit up. "That sounds like baseball! I play baseball with my friend Tyler every weekend!"

The sphinx's stone face brightened. "Baseball! Yes! Will you show me?"

Emma ran home to grab her baseball gear, with Mango trotting proudly beside her. When she returned with her bat and ball, the sphinx taught her an amazing trick—to make the ball float in the air like magic! They played the most wonderful game, with the sphinx using his wings to catch impossible catches and Mango chasing after every ball.

"Being your friend is the greatest adventure," the sphinx said as the sun began to set. "I've waited thousands of years to play baseball again."

Emma smiled, hugging the sphinx's stone paw. "Friends make everything more fun, even ancient games."

From that day on, every time Emma went swimming, the sphinx would appear for a game of baseball. Mango became the official mascot, and together they learned that the best magic isn't about floating balls or stone creatures come to life—it's about friendship and playing together.
