The Sphinx Who Loved Baseball
Lily loved baseball more than anything. Every day after school, she'd grab her glove and run to the park, dreaming of hitting the perfect home run. But she always struck out. One afternoon, sitting on the bench feeling sad, she noticed something strange in her backpack. Her old iPhone, which she thought had stopped working, was glowing with golden light.
When Lily touched the screen, a tiny sphinx popped out! He was no bigger than her thumb, with golden fur and wise, twinkling eyes. "I've been waiting for someone who dreams big," the sphinx said in a voice like chimes. "I am Samson, and I can help you — but only if you solve my riddle."
Lily's eyes grew wide. "What's the riddle?"
Samson smiled. "What has a bat but never sleeps, has bases but never runs, and brings people together even when they compete?"
"Baseball!" Lily shouted. "That's easy!"
Samson laughed, his wings fluttering. "Correct! But the magic isn't in winning — it's in believing. You already have the strength. You just need to trust yourself."
The sphinx touched Lily's baseball bat with his paw, and suddenly she felt different — lighter, braver. She stepped up to the plate, closed her eyes, and remembered Samson's words. *Believe.* The ball sailed through the air, and she hit it — not a home run, but a solid double that made her team cheer.
"You did it!" Samson whispered, fading back into the iPhone. "Remember: magic isn't about being perfect. It's about trying with all your heart."
That day, Lily learned that confidence comes from within. And sometimes, the best friends come in the smallest, most magical packages.
