The Sphinx Who Loved Baseball
Leo loved baseball more than anything. Every day after school, he would grab his glove and run to the park, dreaming of hitting a home run. But today was different.
While chasing a stray ball near the old museum, Leo spotted something strange. A giant stone sphinx was winking at him! Leo rubbed his eyes, but the sphinx was still there, her stone body shimmering with golden light.
"Hello, young player," the sphinx spoke in a voice like wind chimes. "I've been watching you play. I was once the greatest spy in all of Egypt, solving mysteries for pharaohs. But my favorite thing was watching children play games."
Leo's eyes grew wide. "You were a spy?"
"Indeed," the sphinx purred. "I spied on secrets and solved riddles. But now I have a new mission. I need someone to teach me baseball!"
Leo laughed with delight. "I can teach you! But you'll need to practice running fast."
The sphinx tried running around the park, her stone paws thumping happily against the grass. Birds sang, flowers bloomed in her footsteps, and children came to watch the amazing sight.
"Hit the ball!" Leo shouted, tossing it to her.
The sphinx swung with all her might and sent the ball flying into the clouds! Everyone cheered.
"I have something for you," the sphinx said, pressing a small golden pyramid into Leo's hand. "Whenever you need courage or a friend, just hold this. And remember — even ancient stone creatures can learn new games."
From that day on, Leo and the sphinx played baseball together at sunset. The other children could see the sphinx too, and she became the team's magical mascot, teaching them that friendship comes in all shapes and sizes.
Leo learned that the best adventures happen when you're open to the impossible, and that true friends can be found in the most unexpected places — even ancient statues who love baseball as much as you do.
