The Sphinx Who Loved Baseball

Leo's favorite thing in the world was baseball. Every day after school, he would grab his glove and run to the park, his messy hair flying in the wind. But today was different. The sky turned purple as lightning flashed across the clouds in beautiful zigzag patterns.

Leo ran toward the old oak tree—and stopped. A golden sphinx was sitting there, watching him with wise violet eyes. The sphinx had the body of a lion and the face of someone very kind.

"I've watched you play," the sphinx said softly. "Would you be my friend and teach me this game called baseball?"

Leo's eyes went wide. "You want to learn baseball? But you're a sphinx! You're supposed to ask riddles!"

"I know many riddles," she purred, "but I've never learned to catch a ball. Hair or no hair, everyone deserves friends."

Leo smiled and showed her how to hold the bat. The sphinx was surprisingly graceful! When she hit the ball, it flew so high it touched the lightning clouds, sending sparkles raining down like glitter.

"Again!" she roared happily, her golden mane gleaming.

They played until sunset. Other kids gathered to watch, amazed to see a sphinx playing baseball. Leo's team had never had a better player.

"Thank you for teaching me," the sphinx said as the stars appeared. "And thank you for being my friend. True friendship is the greatest treasure of all."

She touched Leo's hair with her paw, and it shimmered with golden light. From that day on, whenever Leo played baseball, he could feel the sphinx cheering for him, and he always knew that magical friends can be found in the most unexpected places—especially when you open your heart.
