The Sphinx Who Forgot to Fly

Lily was swimming in her backyard pool when she noticed something peculiar. A small, golden creature sat on the diving board, looking very sad indeed.

"Hello there," Lily said, swimming closer. "What's wrong?"

The creature had the body of a fluffy kitten and wings like a butterfly. "I'm a sphinx," she said with a tiny sigh. "And I've forgotten how to fly."

Lily pulled herself out of the water and sat beside the sphinx. "What made you forget?"

"I haven't had my sunshine vitamin for three whole days," the sphinx explained. "My mother gives it to me every morning. It makes my wings strong and my heart brave. But she went to help the Cloud Kingdom, and I stayed behind to practice my riddles. Now I'm stuck here."

Lily's eyes sparkled. "I can help! My dad has a big cable in the garage. We could use it to climb up to the clouds!"

The sphinx's golden wings fluttered hopefully. "But that's so high..."

"That's what makes it an adventure!" Lily said, already running toward the garage.

Soon they had the golden cable stretched from the garage roof toward the fluffy white clouds above. Lily tied the end securely around her waist, then helped the sphinx climb onto her shoulders.

"Ready?" Lily asked.

"Ready!"

Together they climbed higher and higher, past birds and butterflies, until they reached the softest cloud Lily had ever felt. The sphinx's mother was there, waiting with a bottle of golden liquid.

"My sunshine vitamin!" The sphinx drank it all, then stretched her wings. They glowed brighter than the sun.

"Thank you, Lily!" the sphinx called, swooping and diving in the sky. "You're the bravest friend I've ever had!"

"Anytime," Lily called back, sliding down the cable with the biggest smile anyone had ever seen.

That night, Lily fell asleep dreaming of golden wings and the wonderful truth: helping friends fly is the best adventure of all.
