The Sphinx Who Forgot to Dance

Penny loved visiting the old garden behind her house, especially with Buster, her golden **dog** who could smell adventure from a mile away. One sunny afternoon, Buster's ears perked up. He started **running** toward the fallen log where wildflowers grew.

"Wait for me!" Penny laughed, chasing after him.

Behind the log, she gasped. There, half-hidden by ivy, sat a small stone **sphinx** with mossy wings. The sphinx had sad emerald eyes that seemed to blink in the dappled sunlight.

"I've been waiting a thousand years," the sphinx spoke in a voice like rustling leaves. "I've forgotten how to dance. Will you help me remember?"

Penny's eyes widened. "But you're made of stone!"

"Not entirely." The sphinx pointed a claw toward a crystal-clear puddle. Inside swam a tiny **goldfish** with scales like rainbow sequins.

"My friend Splash holds the magic of movement," the sphinx explained. "Long ago, I was so busy guarding treasures that I stopped dancing. Slowly, I turned to stone. Only someone who loves both **water** and wonder can break the spell."

Buster barked happily and splashed in the puddle. The goldfish did a joyful flip, sending sparkles dancing across the **water**. Each sparkle landed on the sphinx, and suddenly she began to shimmer.

"Teach me to run!" the sphinx cried.

Penny took the sphinx's paw, Buster raced ahead, and Splash the goldfish leaped from puddle to puddle beside them. Round and round they went, skipping, hopping, and splashing through every puddle in the garden. With every step, the sphinx's stony legs grew softer and warmer.

"I remember!" she laughed, spinning on one paw. "Movement is life! Guarding treasures means nothing if you can't dance with joy!"

The sphinx's stony shell cracked open like an eggshell, and out stepped a magnificent creature with golden fur and rainbow wings. She did a happy cartwheel, then bowed to Penny and Buster.

"Thank you for reminding me that some things are worth more than gold—friendship, fun, and the freedom to move!" She soared into the sky, leaving a trail of sparkles.

Penny and Buster walked home tired but happy, already planning tomorrow's adventure. And in every puddle they passed, a tiny goldfish would wave its tail in greeting.
