The Sphinx Who Forgot How to Swim
Lily loved exploring the forest behind her house. One sunny afternoon, she followed a trail of sparkly blue pebbles until she reached a hidden pond. There, perched on a mossy rock, sat the most extraordinary creature she had ever seen.
It was a sphinx, but not like the ones in books. This sphinx had soft, golden fur and magnificent rainbow-colored hair that flowed like a waterfall around her lion body. Her eyes sparkled like stars.
"Hello, little one," the sphinx said gently. "I'm Cleopatra, but my friends call me Cleo."
Lily's eyes widened. "I'm Lily! Why are you sitting here all alone?"
Cleo sighed, and her rainbow hair drooped sadly. "I forgot how to swim. Long ago, sphinxes were the best swimmers in all the magical realms. We could dive deeper than dolphins and dance with underwater pearls. But I haven't swum in so long, I'm afraid I've forgotten."
Just then, a large brown bear emerged from the forest. He carried a basket of fish and looked kind and gentle.
"Hello, Barnaby!" Cleo called. "This is Lily. She's come to explore."
Barnaby set down his basket. "Pleased to meet you, Lily. Cleo, are you still sad about not swimming?"
Lily had an idea. "What if we all practice together? I can help!"
Cleo's rainbow hair perked up. "Really? You'd help me remember?"
"Of course!" Lily said. "And Barnaby can be our safety bear, just in case."
For the next hour, they played in the shallow water. Lily showed Cleo how to float like a starfish. Barnaby demonstrated how to paddle with big, strong strokes. Cleo tried and tried, her rainbow hair flowing around her like a magical cape.
Suddenly, something clicked. Cleo's eyes lit up. She pushed off with her powerful lion legs and glided through the water, graceful as a mermaid. She surfaced, spraying water in a perfect rainbow arch.
"I remember!" Cleo cheered. "Thank you, friends!"
Barnaby clapped his big paws. Lily hugged the sphinx's wet, golden neck.
That day, Lily learned that some things are never truly forgotten — they just need friendship and practice to come alive again. And sometimes, the most magical adventures happen when you help a friend remember who they truly are.
