The Sphinx Who Forgot How to Smile

Lila was running through her backyard when she spotted something peculiar behind the old oak tree. It was tiny—no bigger than a kitten—with the body of a lion, wings of a dragon, and a wise little face.

"I'm a sphinx," the creature squeaked. "But I've forgotten how to smile."

Lila knelt down. The sphinx's fur was the color of sunset oranges, and its eyes sparkled like morning dew. "What happened?"

"I haven't had my happy vitamin," the sphinx explained sadly. "It comes from the Friendship Cable that connects our worlds. But it's broken."

Lila noticed something glinting in the grass—a thin orange cable, snapped in two. Without thinking, she grabbed both ends and held them together with her tiny fingers. A warm tingle rushed up her arms, like a hug made of sunshine.

The sphinx's ears perked up. "I can feel it! Friendship is the best vitamin!"

Suddenly, the sphinx grew—bigger and bigger until it was the size of a real lion. Its fur turned golden, and its wings stretched wide and magnificent.

"Thank you, Lila," the sphinx rumbled gently. "You didn't need magic potions or special powers. You just needed kindness."

The sphinx offered Lila a ride on its back. Together they soared above the neighborhood, Lila's laughter trailing like sparkles behind them.

When Lila got home, she found something in her pocket—an orange feather, glowing softly. It wasn't just any feather. It was a reminder that the best magic doesn't come from spells or potions. It comes from kindness, friendship, and love.

And every night, when Lila looked at that feather, she remembered the sphinx and learned her lesson: A smile is the most powerful magic of all, and sharing it with others is the greatest adventure of all.

From then on, whenever someone looked sad, Lila would remember the broken cable and how she fixed it—not with tools, but with heart. And that, she realized, was the real happy vitamin: being a friend.
