The Sphinx Who Forgot How to Smile
Lily's goldfish, Fin, wasn't ordinary. When the moon rose, he'd swim in glowing circles, leaving trails of silver light.
One night, Lily followed Fin's light through her window, up into the starry sky, and down into a garden she'd never seen before. In the center stood a tiny sphinx no bigger than a teacup, with crystal eyes that sparkled like raindrops. But the sphinx's face was crumpled in sadness.
"I've forgotten my riddles," the sphinx whispered, her voice like wind chimes. "Without riddles, a sphinx is just a statue. Can you help me?"
Lily wanted to help, but how? Then Fin did something amazing - he swam right out of his bowl and through the air! His fishy lips pressed against the sphinx's cheek, leaving behind a single glowing droplet.
The sphinx gasped. "That's it! The Wisdom Vitamin!"
"Wisdom WHAT-amin?" Lily asked.
The sphinx smiled, and suddenly her whole body began to grow, sparkling with magic. "My dear friend, goldfish carry a special vitamin in their kisses - the Vitamin of Wonder! It's what makes imagination come alive, what makes statues remember they were once magical creatures. It's the most powerful vitamin in all the world!"
As the sphinx spoke, her stone fur turned soft and golden, her wings unfurled like butterfly wings made of sunset, and her crystal eyes danced with joy. She was alive again!
"Thank you both," the sphinx said, lifting Fin onto her paw. "You taught me something too - the best magic doesn't come from ancient spells. It comes from friendship, from helping, from believing in the impossible."
That night, Lily learned that magic is real, but only when you share it with friends. And sometimes, the most important things come in the smallest packages - even from a goldfish's kiss.
