The Sphinx Who Forgot Her Riddles

In the middle of the Desert of Dreams stood a very old sphinx named Cleo. She had the body of a lion, the wings of an eagle, and a wise face that had watched over the desert for thousands of years.

Cleo loved nothing more than asking travelers her famous riddles. But one terrible morning, she woke up and couldn't remember a single one! Not even the easiest one about what has legs in the morning, two legs at noon, and three legs in the evening.

"Oh no," Cleo cried, her golden ears drooping. "A sphinx without riddles is like... like a fish without water!"

That's when young Lily wandered by, looking for adventure. She saw the sad sphinx and asked, "What's wrong, big kitty?"

Cleo explained her problem. Lily's eyes lit up. "I know someone who can help!"

She led Cleo to her secret hiding spot—a tiny oasis with a crystal-clear pool. Inside swam the most brilliant goldfish anyone had ever seen. His scales shimmered like tiny rainbows, and his name was Finwick.

"Finwick was my first friend when I moved here," Lily explained. "He knows everything about remembering things."

Finwick swam to the surface and listened to Cleo's problem. The little fish bubbled with excitement. "I can help! But you must play my game first."

Cleo expected another riddle, but Finwick said, "Close your eyes and remember your favorite thing about being a sphinx."

Cleo thought and thought. She remembered the look in children's eyes when they solved her riddles. She remembered the joy of sharing wisdom. She remembered that her purpose wasn't to trick people, but to help them think in new ways.

"I remember!" Cleo shouted. "The riddles were never about being clever. They were about helping people see the world differently!"

And just like that, all her riddles came flooding back—better than before. Each one now carried a special lesson about kindness, curiosity, and seeing magic in everyday things.

Cleo, Lily, and Finwick became the best of friends. Every day, children came from all around to solve the sphinx's new riddles, and sometimes Finwick even created splashy hints from his pool.

Cleo learned something wonderful that day: sometimes the best answers come not from being the cleverest, but from having friends who help you see with your heart.
