The Sphinx Who Forgot Her Riddle

Lily loved the old library behind her house. Every Saturday, she'd run her fingers through the dusty books, her messy brown hair bouncing with each step.

One rainy afternoon, Lily found a book she'd never seen before. Its cover showed a golden sphinx with sparkling eyes. When she opened it, the sphinx winked!

"Hello, young one," said a voice from the pages. "I'm Cleo, and I'm in a bit of a pickle."

Lily gasped as Cleo stepped right out of the book — a small, golden sphinx no bigger than a cat, with wings like a dragonfly and kind eyes.

"What's wrong?" Lily asked.

"I've forgotten my riddle!" Cleo cried. "A sphinx needs a riddle to guard the library's magic. Without one, I'll fade away."

"I can help!" Lily said. "But how?"

Cleo fluttered her wings. "The answer lies in the Dream Pond. It's hidden deep in the book's magical pages. Will you come with me?"

Lily nodded. Together, they jumped into the book, landing beside a shimmering blue pond surrounded by glowing flowers.

"We must go swimming," Cleo said. "The answer is at the bottom."

The water was warm and smelled like sunshine. Lily held her breath and dove down, deeper and deeper, until she saw something glowing — a perfect papaya, shining like a small sun!

When she surfaced, papaya in hand, Cleo's eyes widened. "Of course! The riddle is: 'I'm sweet inside but tough outside, I wear a crown like golden pride. What am I?'

"A papaya!" Lily laughed.

Celo glowed brighter than ever. "You solved it! Now I can guard the library forever."

From that day on, every time Lily visited the library, Cleo would appear, and they'd share papaya slices while inventing new riddles together. And sometimes, if you look closely at old books, you might just see a small sphinx winking back at you.

Lily learned that the best adventures are the ones you share with friends — and that answers often come when you're brave enough to dive deep into the unknown.
