The Sphinx Who Couldn't Fly
Luna was a small sphinx with very big problems. Her wings were too tiny to fly, her mane of golden hair always tangled in the wind, and worst of all, she had forgotten the answer to the most important riddle of all.
Every evening, the older sphinxes would gather around the Crystal Pool to share wisdom. But Luna sat alone on her favorite rock, watching her reflection swim in the water like a fish trapped in glass.
"Why the long face?" asked a voice.
Luna looked up. A rusty-red fox with the brightest eyes she'd ever seen was sitting beside her. His tail twitched with curiosity.
"I can't fly," Luna whispered. "And my hair is always messy. And I'm supposed to know the Great Riddle by tomorrow, but I don't."
The fox laughed—not meanly, but like wind through willow leaves. "I'm Felix. I can't fly either, but I can run faster than anyone. And messy hair just means you've been having adventures. What's this riddle?"
Luna took a deep breath. "'What is something that everyone has, but no one can see?'"
Felix scratched his ear with his back foot. "Hmm. Everyone has it... but invisible..." He suddenly grinned. "I know! Let me show you!"
He led Luna to the Crystal Pool. "Look at your reflection. What do you see?"
"A sphinx who can't fly,"
Luna gasped. She turned to Felix. "Was that the answer?"
Felix winked. "The answer is 'potential.' Everyone has it, but no one can see it until they use it. Your wings will grow, Luna. Your hair will behave. You just need time—and friends."
Luna looked at her reflection again. For the first time, she saw something wonderful.
"Thank you, Felix," she said. "Will you help me practice riddles tomorrow?"
"Only if you let me race you," Felix replied.
And that's how the sphinx and the fox became best friends, proving that the best magic isn't flying or perfect hair—it's finding someone who believes in you even when you don't believe in yourself.
