The Sphinx's Wild Hair Day

Cleo was a very small sphinx, no bigger than a golden retriever. Unlike the giant stone sphinxes in storybooks, she was made of soft purple fur with sparkly wings. But Cleo had one big problem—her hair.

Every morning, Cleo's hair did something crazy. Monday it stuck straight up like purple cotton candy. Tuesday it curled into rainbow spirals. Wednesday it turned bright green and puffed out like a dandelion.

"I wish I had normal hair," Cleo sighed, watching her reflection in the pond.

Bloop! A tiny goldfish named Fin popped to the surface. "Your hair is MAGICAL, Cleo! My grandpa says sphinx hair glows when something amazing is about to happen."

Suddenly, the sky turned dark purple. CRACK-BOOM! Lightning zigzagged across the sky like electric spaghetti. But this wasn't scary lightning—it was sparkling with all the colors of the rainbow.

"Quick!" cried Fin, splashing excitedly. "The magic lightning only comes once every hundred years! It grants wishes!"

Cleo's heart pounded. She wanted to wish for normal hair. But then she heard a tiny groan from behind a rock.

A little bumblebee shuffled out, but something was wrong. His stripes were faded, his wings drooped, and he moved super slowly—like a tiny zombie bee!

"I'm Zom-Bee," the bee whispered sadly. "I got stuck in a storm and lost all my zoom. I can't fly anymore."

The magical lightning flashed again, brighter than before. This was her chance! Cleo could wish for anything.

Cleo looked at Zom-Bee's sad face. Then she looked at Fin, who was cheering her on. Then she touched her wild, poofy, rainbow-colored hair.

Her hair began to glow—not just a little, but like a miniature sun! It pulsed with warmth and magic.

"I wish," Cleo said loudly, "for Zom-Bee to get his ZOOM back!"

The lightning swirled down like a glowing tornado and—WHOOSH—wrapped around Zom-Bee. His stripes turned bright yellow again. His wings buzzed with power. He zoomed around Cleo's head three times, leaving a trail of sparkles!

"Thank you!" Zom-Bee cheered. "You're the best sphinx ever!"

Cleo's hair flopped over one eye in a messy purple wave. She smiled. She wouldn't change it for anything.

"You know," said Fin, "I think wild hair runs in the family of heroes."

And from that day on, whenever Cleo looked in the mirror, she didn't see messy hair. She saw magic waiting to happen.
