The Sphinx's Tangled Riddle
Lily discovered the golden cable dangling from her attic ceiling on a rainy Tuesday. At first, she thought it was an old TV wire. But when she gave it a gentle tug, the whole attic floor vanished beneath her feet!
Whoosh! She slid down the cable like a rainbow slide, landing with a soft plop in a desert filled with sparkling purple sand.
Before her stood the most magnificent creature she had ever seen—a sphinx with the body of a lion and the head of a kind, wise woman. But something was wrong. The sphinx's beautiful golden hair was a tangled mess, knotted so tight that tears sparkled in her ancient eyes.
"Oh, hello, little one," the sphinx sniffled. "I haven't been able to brush my hair for three thousand years. I'm too short to reach the top, and my paws are too big to hold the brush."
Lily's heart went out to the magical creature. "I can help!" she volunteered. The sphinx handed her a brush made from stardust and moonbeams.
For hours, Lily worked patiently, untangling knot after knot. The sphinx told her stories of ancient Egypt and hidden treasures as they worked. Finally, the last smooth strand fell into place, shimmering like liquid sunshine.
"Thank you!" the sphinx beamed. "For your kindness, I have a gift." She pressed something small and glowing into Lily's palm—a courage vitamin. "Whenever you're scared, remember: you're braver than you know."
Lily hugged the sphinx tight. "I'll never forget you."
She climbed back up the golden cable just as her mother called, "Lily, dinner's ready!" The attic looked perfectly ordinary again. But in her pocket, the courage vitamin still glowed warmly, reminding her that the best magic comes from helping others.
