The Sphinx's Tangled Hair
Lily never expected to find a sphinx in her backyard, especially one with bright purple hair that reached the clouds.
"Hello there," said the sphinx, whose name was Cleo. Cleo's magnificent purple hair swirled and danced like cotton candy in the wind, but it was completely tangled. "I've been stuck here for three days. My hair knotted around the old oak tree, and I can't move!"
Lily stepped closer, her eyes wide with wonder. Cleo wasn't scary at all—she looked kind, with gentle golden eyes and a warm smile. But there was something else tangled in Cleo's purple hair. Something magical.
A tiny goldfish swam through the strands of Cleo's hair as if it were water, shimmering like a living jewel.
"That's Finny," Cleo explained. "He's my best friend, but he's trapped too. My hair got so tangled that even he can't swim free."
Lily's heart went out to them. "I can help! My mom taught me how to brush really carefully."
For an hour, Lily gently worked through the knots, talking and laughing with Cleo the whole time. She learned that sphinxes loved riddles, star-gazing, and making new friends. Cleo shared stories about ancient Egypt and flying over pyramids on moonlit nights.
Finally, the last knot came loose. Finny swam joyfully around Cleo's head, leaving little trails of sparkle dust.
Cleo stretched her wings and beamed. "You're my new friend too, Lily! Friendship is the greatest magic of all."
As a thank you, Cleo gave Lily a special gift—a single gold scale that glowed whenever she needed courage or help. "Just hold it tight," Cleo whispered, "and remember that true friendship never tangles. It only strengthens."
Lily waved as Cleo and Finny soared into the sunset, purple hair streaming like a comet's tail. She knew she would never forget the day a sphinx needed a simple haircut and became her forever friend.
