The Sphinx's Sweet Secret
In a valley where the grass was always green and the sun always warm, there lived a young bull named Benny. Benny was not like the other bulls. While they chased each other and wrestled in the fields, Benny loved to stop and smell the flowers, especially the sweet ones that grew near the old tree at the edge of the valley.
One warm afternoon, Benny followed a wonderful smell to the base of the ancient tree. High above, golden papayas glowed like tiny suns among the leaves. But they were too high to reach, no matter how high Benny stretched or jumped.
"Who goes there?" a voice rumbled from above.
Benny looked up and gasped. Perched on a branch was a small sphinx with fluffy wings the color of sunset, bright green eyes, and a tiny golden crown nestled in her fur.
"I'm Benny," he said softly. "I was just smelling the papayas. They smell like sunshine and honey."
The sphinx tilted her head. "I am Cleo. I guard these papayas. They are magic, you know. One bite gives you courage. Two bites give you wisdom. Three bites... well, that's a secret."
Benny's eyes grew wide. "I don't need courage or wisdom. I just wanted to taste something sweet. My friends say bulls only like grass and clover, but I've always dreamed of trying fruit."
Cleo flew down and landed gently on Benny's back. "That's the bravest thing I've ever heard — being yourself even when others don't understand."
She fluttered up, twisted the perfect papaya from its branch, and dropped it gently. Benny caught it in his mouth. It was sweeter than anything he had ever tasted, sweeter than dreams, sweeter than wishes.
"Thank you, Cleo!" Benny said. "Will you be my friend?"
"Always," she smiled.
Every day after that, Benny visited Cleo. Sometimes they shared papayas. Sometimes Cleo told Benny stories of all the places she had flown. And sometimes, when the other bulls made fun of Benny for being different, Cleo would fly down and sit on his shoulder, and Benny would feel brave enough to just be himself.
The other bulls soon learned that Benny's differences were what made him special. And Benny learned that true friends love you for who you are, not who they think you should be.
And somewhere, in a magical tree, a little sphinx smiled, knowing she had found the sweetest treasure of all — friendship.
