The Sphinx's Summer Magic
Lily skipped through the park, her sneakers crunching on the warm path. It was the hottest day of summer, and she couldn't wait to reach the swimming pool. But something strange caught her eye.
Behind the old oak tree, where nobody ever looked, sat a tiny sphinx no bigger than a cat. His fur was golden like sunshine, and his wings shimmered like rainbows. He held a perfect orange in his paws.
"You can see me?" the sphinx squeaked, his eyes wide with surprise. "Most grown-ups can't!"
Lily knelt down. "I'm Lily. What's your name?"
"Sunny! And this is my very special orange." Sunny held it up proudly. "One bite makes anything float like magic!"
Lily's eyes lit up. "Can we try it at the pool? I wish I could swim better."
Sunny grinned. "That's what friends are for! Hop on my back!"
Lily carefully climbed onto the sphinx's soft fur. WHOOSH! Sunny's wings spread wide, and they soared through the summer air. The pool sparkled below them like blue diamonds.
They landed softly beside the water. Sunny took a tiny bite of the orange and gave one to Lily. Suddenly, she felt light as a feather! She stepped onto the water and didn't sink—she floated!
"I'm doing it!" Lily cheered, dancing across the pool's surface.
Sunny floated beside her, his golden fur glowing. "Magic works best with friends to share it with!"
All afternoon, they played and laughed. Lily learned that the magic wasn't just in the orange—it was in having someone believe in you.
As evening came, Sunny flew Lily home. "Visit me anytime, friend. Real friendship is the best magic of all!"
