The Sphinx's Stormy Friend
In the magical Desert of Wonders, there lived a golden sphinx named Cleo. She had the body of a lion and the head of a wise cat, and she guarded the secrets of the ancient sands.
One stormy night, lightning flashed across the purple sky. Cleo loved lightning storms—they made the desert sparkle like millions of tiny diamonds. But tonight, she heard something sad beneath the thunder.
"Hello?" she called softly. "Is someone there?"
From behind a cactus peeked a little zombie boy named Zed. His skin was green and his clothes were patchy, but his eyes were kind and gentle.
"Go away," Zed sniffled. "Everyone's scared of me."
Cleo padded closer. "Why would I be scared?"
"I'm a zombie! Zombies are supposed to be scary and mean. But I just want to watch the lightning. It's so beautiful."
Cleo smiled. "I think lightning is beautiful too! And I'm a sphinx—people think I'm mysterious and scary. But I'm just lonely sometimes."
Zed's eyes widened. "You too?"
Another bolt of lightning streaked across the sky—this time in bright pink! Both of them gasped in delight.
"Look!" Zed pointed, jumping up and down. "It's dancing!"
Celo laughed, and soon they were both watching the storm together, counting lightning bolts and naming the colors. Blue! Green! Even sparkly silver!
"You know what?" Cleo said as the storm passed. "Being different isn't bad. Sometimes the most wonderful friends are the ones we least expect."
Zed grinned, his green face glowing with happiness. "Can we watch lightning together again tomorrow?"
"Every storm," Cleo promised. "And we'll teach everyone that sphinxes and zombies can be the best of friends."
And that's exactly what they did—because sometimes the best magic of all is finding friendship in the most unexpected places.
