The Sphinx's Storm Friends

Lily discovered something magical in her grandmother's dusty garden shed. Between old flowerpots and rusty tools sat a small stone sphinx, no bigger than a kitten. Its tiny paws were curled peacefully, and its lion face wore a mysterious smile.

That night, a fierce thunderstorm rumbled through the town. Lightning flashed so bright it turned night into day. When Lily peeked into the shed the next morning, she gasped. The little sphinx had come alive! Its golden fur shimmered like sunshine, and its wings fluttered excitedly.

But something else moved in the shadows. A small figure with messy green hair and patchy clothes shuffled forward. A zombie!

Lily wanted to run, but the sphinx nudged her hand gently. "Don't be afraid," the sphinx said in a voice like tiny bells. "This is Zed. He's not scary — he's just lonely."

The zombie looked down sadly. "Everyone runs away when they see me. I just want a friend."

Lily remembered how she felt when she started at her new school and nobody talked to her. Being lonely was the worst feeling.

"I'll be your friend," Lily said bravely. "And I'll tell my classmates that zombies can be awesome friends too."

Zed's face lit up like the lightning from the night before. "Really?"

"Really," said the sphinx, nodding wisely. "True friends see with their hearts, not their eyes."

And that's how Lily, the little sphinx, and Zed became the best of friends. They learned that courage means giving others a chance, even when they seem different at first glance. Sometimes the most unexpected friendships are the most magical ones.
