The Sphinx's Starry Pool
Luna had the longest, curliest hair in her village—it tumbled down her back like a chocolate waterfall, all the way to her knees. Every morning, she brushed it one hundred times, just like her grandmother had taught her.
One evening, while chasing a firefly into the woods, Luna discovered something magical. Behind a waterfall so shimmering it looked like liquid diamonds, there was a cave. Inside sat a sphinx—the kind from storybooks, with the body of a lion and the face of a wise woman.
"I've been waiting for someone brave enough to find me," the sphinx said, her eyes twinkling like starlight. "My name is Cleo, and I guard something special."
Luna wasn't afraid. She sat beside the sphinx and listened as Cleo told her stories about the constellations.
"That one," Cleo pointed upward, "is the Great Bull. He's not scary—he's the gentlest of all the stars. Once a year, he comes down to swim in my magical pool."
Luna gasped. "Can we swim too?"
Cleo smiled. "Only if you're not afraid of deep water."
Luna wasn't afraid. She dove into the pool, which glowed like the night sky. Her magical hair floated around her like seaweed made of stardust. And then—magic happened. The Great Bull constellation shimmered and splashed down beside them!
He was enormous but sweet, with a coat that sparkled like galaxies. The bull let Luna ride on his back while Cleo the sphinx swam alongside, laughing for the first time in centuries.
From that night on, Luna visited Cleo every evening. They would swim together under the stars, and sometimes the Great Bull would join them for a midnight splash.
Luna learned that the scariest-looking creatures can be the kindest friends—and that the best adventures come from being brave enough to say hello.
Now Luna brushes her hair every night before bed, wondering what magical friend she'll meet next. Because in a world full of sphinxes and starry bulls, anything is possible.
