The Sphinx's Starlight Vitamins

Emma loved thunderstorms. While other children hid under blankets, she pressed her nose against the window, watching the sky crack open with brilliant lightning.

One stormy night, something magical happened. A small creature tumbled down from the clouds and landed in Emma's garden—a tiny sphinx no bigger than her cat, with soft golden fur and wings that sparkled like captured starlight.

"Oh no," the sphinx squeaked, her voice sounding like wind chimes. "I've lost my Starlight Vitamins!"

Emma rushed outside with an umbrella. "What are Starlight Vitamins?"

"They're magical crystals that give sphinxes the power to grant friendship wishes," the little creature explained sadly. "Without them, I can't help lonely children find friends."

Emma's heart squeezed. She knew all about being lonely—she'd just moved to a new town and hadn't made any friends yet.

"Where did you lose them?" Emma asked.

"The lightning scattered them everywhere!" The sphinx's wings drooped. "They're probably lost forever."

"We'll find them together," Emma promised.

All through the storm, they searched. Emma found one glowing crystal caught in a tree branch. Another was hidden in a flowerbed. The sphinx's wings grew brighter with each discovery.

Finally, only one vitamin remained. It was perched precariously on the highest branch of the old oak tree—right where lightning had just struck!

Emma climbed anyway. Her fingers slipped. She fell—

The sphinx caught her, wings glowing with all the recovered Starlight Vitamins.

"Thank you, my friend," the sphinx whispered. "You were braver than any magic."

Emma's wish came true not because of magic crystals, but because she'd been brave enough to help someone in need. At school the next day, she sat next to a lonely-looking girl and said hello.

Sometimes the best magic isn't found in lightning or crystals. It's found in friendship itself.
