The Sphinx's Starlight Game
Lila loved running through the Whispering Woods, her bare feet padding softly on mossy paths. One morning, she discovered something she'd never seen before — a garden where papayas grew as big as beach balls, glowing with golden light.
"Who dares enter my garden?" a voice rumbled.
Lila looked up. Perched on a stone archway sat a magnificent sphinx with emerald feathers and wise amber eyes. But this sphinx looked sad.
"I'm Lila," she said bravely. "Why are you lonely?"
The sphinx sighed. "For a thousand years, I've asked riddles to travelers. Everyone runs away, afraid of me. I only want a friend."
Lila's heart went out to the creature. "I have an idea! My sister plays padel — a game with racquets and a ball. What if we played together?"
The sphinx's eyes brightened. Using magical moonbeams as racquets and a sparkling papaya as the ball, they played the most wonderful game ever. The papaya bounced between them leaving trails of rainbow dust. Lila laughed so hard her sides hurt.
"You're not scary at all," Lila said. "You're fun!"
The sphinx smiled, and its stone heart softened. "Thank you for seeing me, Lila. You've taught me something important — friendship begins when we stop hiding behind walls and start playing together."
From that day on, children visited the sphinx's garden. They ate magical papayas that made dreams come true and played starlight padel under the moon. The sphinx was never lonely again, all because one brave girl chose kindness over fear.
And sometimes, when you run through the woods at dusk, you can still hear them playing — the sound of friendship echoing through the trees.
