The Sphinx's Special Gift
Lily loved running more than anything. Every morning, she would run through her backyard, past the tall palm trees that swayed in the warm breeze. She ran so fast that her feet barely touched the grass!
One sunny afternoon, Lily discovered something magical behind the biggest palm tree. A stone creature with the body of a lion and the head of a wise person was sleeping in the shade. It was a sphinx!
The sphinx opened one golden eye. "You run very fast for such a small person," it rumbled softly. "But do you know what makes you truly strong?"
Lily shook her head, curious.
"Not running fast," said the sphinx, "but running with purpose. Running toward what matters."
The sphinx stretched and held out its stone paw. Inside rested something sparkling—a tiny, glowing orange pill. "This is a special vitamin from the Magical Garden. Not for your body, but for your heart. It will help you remember what's important."
Lily took the magical vitamin carefully. She felt warm all over, like drinking hot cocoa on a snowy day.
"What's it for?" Lily asked.
"The next time you run," the sphinx whispered, "think about why you're running. Are you running away from something scary? Or running toward something wonderful?"
That afternoon, Lily's little brother was crying. He had dropped his favorite toy in a bush. Without thinking, Lily began running—not away to avoid helping, but toward him to make things better.
As she ran, she felt the vitamin working in her heart. It made her feel brave and kind and full of love. She found the toy, and her brother stopped crying.
When Lily ran back to the palm tree to thank the sphinx, the creature was gone. But carved into the stone was one word: LOVE.
Lily realized then that the magical vitamin wasn't a pill at all. It was remembering that running fast is wonderful, but running to help others is even better.
From that day on, whenever Lily ran past the swaying palm trees, she remembered the sphinx's lesson. And she always tried to run toward kindness, friendship, and love.
