The Sphinx's Sleeping Friend
Lily discovered something extraordinary in her grandmother's attic: an iPhone with a glowing purple button she'd never seen before. When she pressed it, the screen swirled with sparkles, and suddenly she wasn't in the attic anymore.
She stood in a golden desert where a magnificent sphinx with emerald eyes and wings like sunset clouds perched on a crystal throne.
"Welcome, young adventurer," the sphinx purred warmly. "I am Cleo, guardian of the Magic Gate. But I need your help."
"What kind of help?" Lily asked, her heart fluttering like butterfly wings.
Cleo pointed to a shadowy cave nearby. "My best friend Ben has been under a sleeping spell for a hundred years. He looks like a zombie – all slow and sleepy – but he's really the kindest wizard who ever lived. Only someone pure of heart can wake him."
Lily's eyes widened. A real zombie wizard!
Inside the glowing cave, a green figure in a pointy hat shuffled slowly, arms stretched forward, making soft groaning sounds.
"Don't be afraid," Cleo whispered. "That's just how the spell makes him move."
Lily approached slowly, then remembered the magical iPhone still in her hand. The purple button pulsed brighter. Without thinking, she gently touched Ben's forehead with the phone.
"Wake up, friend," she whispered.
Ben's eyes popped open, sparkling like stars. The green faded to healthy pink, and he smiled broadly.
"Thank you!" Ben cheered, his voice clear and happy. "I've dreamed of someone brave enough to help."
Cleo beamed. "You see, Lily? Things aren't always what they seem. Ben looked scary, but he's wonderful. That's the most important magic of all."
Lily hugged her new friends, learning that day that courage means seeing past appearances to find the good inside everyone.
