The Sphinx's Silly Riddle

Lily loved her backyard, especially the old oak tree where she daydreamed. One sunny afternoon, she noticed something peculiar—a sandy path had appeared, leading behind the tree. Curious, she followed it into a shimmering world she'd never seen before.

There, resting beneath a swaying **palm** tree, sat a golden sphinx with kind purple eyes and butterfly wings.

"Hello, little one," the sphinx purred. "I'm Cleo, and I need your help. My favorite friend, Finley the **goldfish**, has forgotten how to smile!"

Lily's eyes widened. "A goldfish who smiles? That's amazing!"

Celo nodded sadly. "Finley lives in the Crystal Pond beyond the Sleeping Hill. But there's a problem—a grumpy old garden zombie guards the path. He's not scary, just lonely and misunderstood. He lumbers around mumbling 'grooooots' all day because he loves vegetables but has no one to share them with."

Lily's heart swelled with determination. "I know what to do!"

She marched toward the misty hill, where she found the zombie—green and patchy, with tangled vines in his hair. He was indeed muttering about roots.

"Excuse me, Mr. Zombie?" Lily called out bravely. "Would you like some company?"

The zombie's foggy eyes widened. "Someone... wants to sit with me?"

Lily spent the afternoon listening to his stories and sharing her sandwich. As they laughed together, his green patches began to fade, revealing a kind-faced gardener underneath.

"Thank you," he said, his voice clear now. "Friendship broke my lonely curse. Please, pass through to help your friend."

At the Crystal Pond, Lily found Finley floating sadly. But when she told him about making a new friend, the goldfish's fins wiggled into the biggest smile ever seen on a fish.

"You solved it!" Cleo cheered when Lily returned. "The answer wasn't a riddle at all—it was kindness! Friendship wakes every smile."

Lily walked home as the magical world faded, knowing that sometimes the scariest problems just need a little love—and that the best adventures are the ones shared with new friends.
