The Sphinx's Secret Wish

Maya lived in a village where the sun shone so bright that the earth cracked and cried. Every day, she walked miles to the river, carrying heavy buckets of water back home. Her arms ached, but she never complained.

One afternoon, a sandstorm swept Maya far from her path. When the dust settled, she saw something magnificent—a golden pyramid rising from the dunes, its sides sparkling like captured sunshine. At its base sat a great sphinx, with the body of a lion and the face of a wise woman.

"I am Cleo," the sphinx spoke, her voice like wind through palm leaves. "For a thousand years, I have guarded this pyramid. But I have forgotten why."

Maya noticed something strange—Cleo's stone lips were dry and cracked. "You're thirsty!"

"Yes," said the sphinx sadly. "But I cannot move. I cannot reach the oasis. And so I sit here, remembering how it feels to be alive."

Without thinking, Maya poured her precious water into a hollow stone near the sphinx's feet. Cleo drank, and something magical happened. The pyramid began to glow, and water bubbled up from beneath its base—clear, sweet, and endless.

"You remembered kindness," Cleo whispered. "That was my purpose all along. The pyramid holds water for those who share freely."

That day, Maya led her village to the miraculous pyramid. The sphinx became their guardian, and the water saved everyone.

Every morning, Maya brought Cleo a fresh flower. And the sphinx taught the children that the greatest magic isn't gold or jewels—it's opening your heart to help others.
