The Sphinx's Secret Vitamin
Lily loved to spy on secrets. Every day after school, she'd tiptoe through the forest behind her house, looking for magic. One afternoon, she heard splashing by the old brook.
Peeking through the bushes, Lily gasped. A magnificent sphinx sat on a mossy rock! It had the body of a golden lion and the head of a wise owl. The sphinx was crying shimmering tears into the water below.
"Why are you sad?" Lily asked, stepping out from hiding.
The sphinx jumped. "Oh! I didn't spy anyone there." She wiped her eyes with a feathery wing. "I'm lonely. Nobody visits me anymore."
Lily sat beside her. "I'm Lily. What's your name?"
"Sophia," said the sphinx. "And I'm crying because I have something wonderful to share, but no friends to share it with."
From behind the rock, Sophia pulled out a glowing jar filled with rainbow-colored berries. "These are courage vitamins. They grow only in moonlight. One bite makes you brave enough to try anything new."
Lily's eyes widened. "Wow!"
"But they only work if you share them," Sophia explained. "And I have no one to share with."
Lily thought of her little brother, Max, who was afraid of swimming. She thought of her friend Sam, who scared to sing in the school concert.
"I know lots of people who need courage vitamins!" Lily exclaimed. "Will you come meet them?"
Sophia's face lit up like sunshine. "Really? You'd be my friend?"
"Best friends," Lily promised, taking a bright blue berry. "And I know just who needs this first."
That afternoon, Lily brought home something magical. Not just courage vitamins, but a new friend who taught her that the bravest thing you can do is share kindness with others.
And from that day on, Lily didn't just spy on magic anymore. She made it happen, one friendship at a time.
