The Sphinx's Secret Vitamin

Lily loved exploring behind her grandmother's old house, especially near the sparkling stream that wound through the woods. One sunny afternoon, she spotted something peculiar—a large stone creature with the body of a lion and the head of a human, half-hidden behind mossy rocks.

"A sphinx!" Lily gasped, remembering from her storybook. But this sphinx looked lonely.

"Hello there," she said softly.

The sphinx's stone eyes twinkled. "Hello, young explorer. I've been waiting for someone brave enough to find me."

Lily sat beside the magical creature. "Why were you waiting?"

"I guard something special," the sphinx rumbled gently. "Look into the water."

Lily peered into the crystal-clear stream. Tiny colorful stones glowed at the bottom, each pulsing with soft light.

"What are they?"

"Courage vitamins," the sphinx explained. "One sip of stream water with these stones gives you exactly what you need when you're afraid."

Lily thought about her fear of dark nights and speaking in front of her class. "Could I try?"

The sphinx nodded. "But remember—true courage comes from within. These vitamins just help you remember your own strength."

Lily cupped her hands and drank the sweet, cool water. Warmth spread through her chest, and suddenly she stood taller. "I feel... braver already!"

"Good," the sphinx smiled. "Now, will you help me?"

"Help you with what?"

"I've been stuck here for centuries because I forgot something important. Can you guess what it is?"

Lily thought hard. The sphinx was wise and strong, guarding magical vitamins... "You forgot that you don't need to stay here to be special! You could come out and meet people!"

The sphinx's eyes widened. "You're right! I was so focused on guarding that I forgot to live."

The stone creature stretched and transformed into a beautiful, golden sphinx that could move freely. "Thank you, Lily. Will you be my friend?"

"Yes!" Lily cheered.

From that day on, Lily and her sphinx friend had many adventures. And whenever Lily felt scared, she'd remember: she didn't need magical water to be brave—she'd had courage all along, just waiting to shine like those glowing stones.

The real vitamin, she learned, was friendship itself.
