The Sphinx's Secret Vitamin

Lily discovered the old sphinx statue behind her school's playground one Tuesday afternoon. It was covered in moss, but when she touched its stone paw, the sphinx opened one golden eye.

"Hello, young friend," the sphinx rumbled in a voice like distant thunder. "I've been sleeping for three hundred years. I must be lonely."

Lily's eyes grew wide. "You're alive!"

"Mostly," the sphinx said. "But I've lost my magic power. Do you know what a sphinx needs to stay strong?"

Lily shook her head.

"The Golden Vitamin," the sphinx whispered mysteriously. "Hidden somewhere in this garden by my very best friend long ago."

Suddenly, a clever red fox popped out from behind a bush. "I heard someone needs help finding treasure!" Foxes are naturally curious, and this one—whose name was Rusty—had been the playground's unofficial spy for years, watching everything from behind the swings.

"Can you help us?" Lily asked.

Rusty nodded. "I've seen everything that happens here. Follow me!"

The fox led them to an old oak tree where something glinted in the afternoon sun. It was a golden capsule—the magical vitamin!

"But how will you reach it?" Lily worried. The capsule was stuck in a high branch.

Rusty had an idea. "My friend Squirrel owes me a favor." Soon, a busy squirrel scampered down with a bright blue cable from the nearby telephone pole. Working together, Lily and Rusty fashioned a clever pulley system.

When the sphinx swallowed the Golden Vitamin, its stone fur shimmered and turned soft as real fur. Its eyes sparkled like stars.

"Thank you," the sphinx said warmly. "You've taught me something important: even the strongest magic needs friends."

That afternoon, Lily, Rusty, and the newly-restored sphinx had the best adventure ever, solving playground mysteries and making every child's recess more magical. And every day after school, Lily would wave to her two best friends—one ancient and wise, one small and clever—both teaching her that true magic comes from kindness, cooperation, and never being afraid to ask for help.
