The Sphinx's Secret Treasure

Lily's flashlight flickered against the golden stone. Her school class had left the Great Pyramid ten minutes ago, but Lily had wandered too far, chasing a beautiful blue butterfly.

Now she was lost in the chamber deep beneath the desert sands.

"Hello, little one," a voice rumbled like distant thunder.

Lily gasped. The stone statue before her—half lion, half human—was moving! Golden eyes opened, glowing softly in the darkness.

"I'm the Sphinx," the creature said kindly. "Guardian of ancient secrets. But I'm lonely. No one visits me anymore except tourists with their flashing cameras."

Lily noticed the Sphinx was crying silver tears that turned to glitter before hitting the ground.

"I have something that might cheer you up," Lily said, reaching into her pocket. Her iPhone! She'd been secretly taking pictures all day.

She opened her photo app and showed the Sphinx:

• Her cat Mittens doing backflips

• A rainbow over her school

• Her baby brother's first steps

• Her mom's famous chocolate chip cookies

The Sphinx's eyes widened. "Magic scrolls that capture moments! I've guarded the Pyramid for three thousand years, but I've never seen anything like this."

For an hour, they shared stories. Lily showed the Sphinx how to swipe, zoom, and even take silly selfies together— Sphinx and girl, grinning like old friends.

"This is the greatest treasure I've ever seen," the Sphinx whispered. "Better than gold or jewels. Memories, friendship, joy—these are what truly matter."

The Sphinx pressed her paw against Lily's iPhone screen. A gentle golden light flowed through it.

"Now your device can show you something special," the Sphinx said. "Whenever you feel lonely, open your photos. You'll find new pictures—of magical places only your heart can see."

Lily's flashlight beam suddenly showed her teacher calling her name from the passage.

"Go now," the Sphinx smiled, becoming still again. "Remember: the best treasures aren't things you keep. They're moments you share."

That night, Lily checked her phone. There, among her regular photos, were new ones: a butterfly made of starlight, a pyramid glowing like a sunset, and a Sphinx winking playfully.

She smiled, touching the screen. The best magic, she realized, wasn't ancient spells or modern devices—it was friendship, discovered in the most unexpected places.
