The Sphinx's Secret Summer

Leo loved summer, especially his backyard pool. But today felt different.

While playing spy with his best friend Mia, Leo noticed something glittering by the pool's edge. "Look!" he whispered, pulling out his mom's iphone to take a picture.

A tiny golden sphinx sat on the concrete! It was only as tall as Leo's sneaker, with small eagle wings and eyes that twinkled like stars.

"Are you... real?" Leo asked, forgetting his spy game completely.

The sphinx stretched its wings. "I am as real as your imagination," it said in a voice like soft bells. "I've been waiting for someone who still believes in magic."

Mia peeked through the fence. "Is that a... miniature sphinx?"

"I am Sunburst," the creature said proudly. "I guard the secrets of childhood wonder. But I'm lonely. Will you be my friends?"

Leo and Mia exchanged excited looks. "Yes!" they said together.

For weeks, they visited Sunburst by the pool. The sphinx told them stories of ancient Egypt, of pharaohs who built great pyramids, and of children who kept magic alive through dreams. In return, Leo and Mia shared their world - showing Sunburst photos on the iphone and teaching it about modern life.

One hot afternoon, Sunburst shared a special secret: "This pool holds magic too. When you splash with pure joy, you create ripples of happiness that spread across the world."

Leo and Mia spent the rest of the summer making happy splashes, imagining their joy reaching children everywhere.

When September came, Sunburst grew sad. "I must return to Egypt now," it said. "But remember - magic lives wherever you believe in it."

"We'll never forget you," Leo promised, hugging the tiny sphinx.

"And we'll keep making happy ripples," Mia added.

Sunburst soared into the sky, becoming a spark of golden light that joined the stars. Every summer since, Leo and Mia look for sphinxes by the pool, knowing magic is real - especially when you're with your best friend.
