The Sphinx's Secret Star
Leo loved exploring his grandmother's attic. Rain pattered on the roof as he rummaged through dusty boxes, until something golden caught his eye—an old book titled "The Sphinx's Riddle."
Inside, on the first page, were the words: *Say my name three times, and I will show you worlds beyond your wildest dreams.* Below them, a drawing of a sphinx with sparkling eyes.
"Sphinx. Sphinx. Sphinx," Leo whispered.
The attic dissolved into shimmering light. When it faded, Leo stood on soft purple sand under a sky filled with floating islands. Before him rose the Sphinx from the book—except this one had fur like starlight and eyes that twinkled like actual stars.
"Hello, Leo," the Sphinx said gently. "I've been waiting for someone brave enough to call me. Will you help me? My friend is stuck, and only someone with a pure heart can save him."
Leo nodded, his heart fluttering like a trapped butterfly.
"First," said the Sphinx, "you must go swimming in the Milky Way River. It's not water—it's liquid starlight!"
Leo stepped into the glowing river. It felt like being wrapped in a warm blanket. He swam through stardust, past comets that giggled as he passed, until he reached a beautiful island where a magnificent creature stood—Barnaby the Bull, made entirely of coral and seashells.
"Oh thank goodness!" Barnaby cried. "I was afraid no one would come. The tide carried me all the way from my ocean home, and now I'm lost."
Leo extended his hand. "I'll help you, Barnaby."
Together, they followed the Sphinx's directions, which led them through clouds made of cotton candy and over bridges made of moonbeams. Finally, they reached the Crystal Palm Tree, whose leaves were made of solidified rainbows.
"Plant one leaf in your world," the Sphinx's voice echoed, "and friendship will bloom wherever you go."
Leo plucked a shimmering leaf, and suddenly he was back in the attic. The golden book glowed softly, then faded to an ordinary storybook. But in Leo's hand, the rainbow palm leaf pulsed with warm light.
Outside, the rain had stopped. Leo ran to the garden, dug a small hole, and planted the leaf. Instantly, a tiny palm sprout emerged, its leaves shimmering with all the colors of friendship.
Sometimes, Leo still whispers "Sphinx" three times. And sometimes, if you look closely at his garden, you'll see Barnaby resting beneath the palm tree, and the Sphinx's eyes twinkling in the stars above.
