The Sphinx's Secret Spring
Lila loved to spy. Every afternoon, she'd tiptoe through the Whispering Woods with her butterfly notebook, watching for fairies, gnomes, and other magical creatures. She wasn't trying to be sneaky—she just wanted to learn their secrets!
One hot summer day, Lila followed a sparkling path she'd never seen before. It led her to a crystal-clear pool of water that shimmered like liquid diamonds. But something enormous blocked her way.
It was a sphinx! Golden fur gleamed in the sunlight, and enormous wings folded at its sides. The sphinx had the body of a lion and the face of a wise woman.
"Who comes to spy on my secret spring?" the sphinx rumbled gently.
Lila's heart beat fast. "I'm Lila, and I only wanted to learn. I write everything in my notebook!"
The sphinx's golden eyes softened. "I am Cleopatra, guardian of the Healing Waters. Many have come to spy, but none stay to help."
Lila noticed the sphinx looked sad. "Help? What do you need?"
"The magical water can heal any sickness, but the spring is clogged with dark stones from a storm. I cannot move them alone."
Lila closed her notebook and rolled up her sleeves. "I'll help! My brother is sick, and this water could save him."
For an hour, they worked together—Lila's small hands fitting where the sphinx's paws couldn't. The water began to bubble and sparkle again, filling the air with rainbow mist.
Cleopatra smiled. "You didn't spy for yourself. You spied for love."
She filled a crystal vial with the glowing water. "Take this to your brother. And come back anytime—not to spy, but to visit."
Lila hugged the sphinx's golden neck. "Thank you, Cleopatra! Friends are better than secrets anyway."
She hurried home, knowing that some mysteries weren't meant to be solved alone. The best magic happened when you helped others.
