The Sphinx's Secret Riddle
Lily loved **running** through the golden meadow behind her house, her sneakers crunching on fallen leaves. Every afternoon after school, she'd race the wind until her cheeks turned pink and her breath made little clouds in the crisp autumn air.
One Tuesday, something magical happened. As Lily rounded the old oak tree, she spotted a creature unlike anything she'd ever seen—a magnificent stone **sphinx** with emerald eyes that sparkled like morning dew. The sphinx wasn't scary like in storybooks. She looked kind, with gentle wings folded softly against her sides.
"Hello, little one," the sphinx purred, her voice sounding like wind chimes. "I've been waiting for someone with a brave heart."
Lily's knees trembled, but she stepped closer. "Who are you?"
"I am Celeste, guardian of the Friendship Path," the sphinx said. "Long ago, two best friends forgot how to talk to each other. They became a **dog** and a **fox**, still roaming these woods separately. Only when someone shows them the meaning of true friendship will they remember who they really are."
Lily's eyes widened. "I can help!"
"First," Celeste said, "you must answer my riddle: What is golden but has no treasure, grows stronger when shared, and can mend even the brokenest hearts?"
Lily thought hard, watching as a golden retriever puppy and a clever red fox emerged from behind the bushes. They looked at each other warily, tails tucked.
"Friendship!" Lily cried out. "Friendship is golden, grows when you share it, and can heal broken hearts!"
The sphinx smiled, and her emerald eyes glowed brightly. Suddenly, the dog and fox rushed toward each other, and in a flash of golden light, they transformed into two boys—Lily's classmates, Max and Sam!
"We remember!" they exclaimed together. "We had a fight over whose turn it was, and we forgot we were best friends."
Lily hugged them both. "Everyone fights sometimes. What matters is saying sorry and being friends again."
From that day on, Lily, Max, and Sam were the best of friends. And sometimes, when they played in the meadow, they'd spot Celeste watching them with her sparkling emerald eyes, reminding them that friendship is the greatest treasure of all.
