The Sphinx's Secret Riddle

Lily loved swimming more than anything. Every summer day, she'd dive into the cool blue water of Crystal Lake, pretending she was a mermaid exploring an underwater kingdom.

One afternoon, while doing her usual laps, Lily noticed something strange—a golden glow beneath the old wooden dock. Being curious and wanting to play spy, she took a deep breath and dove down to investigate.

What she found amazed her!

A tiny sphinx, no bigger than her hand, sat on a lily pad, its wings shimmering like rainbows. The sphinx smiled kindly.

"Hello, young adventurer," it said in a voice like tinkling bells. "I've been waiting for someone brave enough to find me."

Lily's eyes widened. "Are you real?"

"As real as your imagination," the sphinx replied mysteriously. "I am the guardian of this lake's magic. But I'm lonely. Will you be my friend?"

"Yes!" Lily exclaimed without hesitation.

The sphinx clapped its paws happily. "Wonderful! But first, you must solve my riddle: What makes you strong, helps you grow, and comes in colors bright as sunshine?"

Lily thought hard. She remembered what her mother always said at breakfast. "A vitamin!" she shouted. "Like in my orange juice and the yummy vegetables!"

"Correct!" cheered the sphinx. "You're clever and kind. That's the best combination."

From that day on, Lily visited her magical friend every chance she got. The sphinx taught her that the best adventures are the ones you share with friends, and that kindness is the greatest magic of all.

And sometimes, when the sun sets just right over Crystal Lake, if you look closely, you might see a little golden sphinx flying overhead, reminding everyone that magic exists for those who believe in friendship and wonder.
