The Sphinx's Secret Riddle

Lily loved exploring her grandmother's dusty library. One rainy afternoon, she discovered a golden book hidden behind a row of encyclopedias. As she opened it, a tiny sphinx no bigger than her hand fluttered out!

"Greetings, young seeker!" the sphinx chimed, stretching its magnificent wings. "I've been trapped for three hundred years. Will you help me?"

Lily's eyes widened with wonder. "Yes! What do I need to do?"

The sphinx smiled mysteriously. "Solve my riddle: I make your eyes bright and your skin glow. I come in many colors, but I'm most famous as orange. What am I?"

Lily's forehead wrinkled in thought. She pulled out her iphone—not for games, but to search her grandmother's garden encyclopedia. She flipped through digital pages of fruits and vegetables until something caught her eye.

"A carrot!" Lily exclaimed. "And oranges too—they're both full of vitamin A!"

The sphinx sparkled with delight. "Correct! You used both ancient wisdom and modern tools. Clever girl!" With a burst of golden light, the sphinx grew to full size, then shrunk again to fit in Lily's palm. "I shall be your guardian friend now. Together, we'll have many adventures!"

From that day on, whenever Lily faced a tough problem, she remembered: the best solutions come from combining knowledge old and new, and sometimes the smallest friends have the biggest magic.

And every time she ate an orange, she whispered, "Thank you, little sphinx."
