The Sphinx's Secret Riddle

Lily loved exploring the woods behind her grandmother's house. Every Saturday, she would put on her favorite red wool hat and set off on a new adventure. But today was different. Today, she had lost something very important.

"Grandma will be so worried," Lily whispered, pushing through a thicket of blackberry bushes. Her blonde curls bounced as she searched. "I can't believe I dropped my iphone somewhere in these woods."

Suddenly, a flash of orange caught her eye. A sleek fox with the softest fur she had ever seen stepped into the clearing. But this wasn't an ordinary fox—it wore a tiny silver crown!

"Are you looking for something?" the fox asked. Lily gasped. The fox could talk!

"My phone," Lily stammered. "Have you seen it?"

The fox's tail swished thoughtfully. "Perhaps the Great Sphinx knows. But first, you must answer her riddle."

The Sphinx appeared as if by magic—a magnificent creature with the body of a lion and the face of a wise woman. Her long silver hair flowed like a waterfall, and her eyes sparkled with ancient secrets.

"Young one," the Sphinx rumbled, her voice like gentle thunder. "I have your shiny device. But to earn it back, you must solve this: What has buttons but cannot sew, shows you the world but cannot see, and connects hearts but cannot feel?"

Lily thought hard. Buttons... world... connect hearts... Her eyes lit up!

"A phone!" she exclaimed. "My iphone!"

The Sphinx smiled warmly. "Correct. But I kept it not to trick you, but to teach you. You were so busy looking at your screen that you forgot to look up at the world around you. The woods are full of magic if you only take the time to see it."

Lily nodded slowly. The Sphinx was right. She had been taking pictures of flowers instead of really seeing them. She had been playing games instead of playing in the real world.

"Thank you," Lily said as the Sphinx returned her phone. "I promise to spend more time exploring and less time scrolling."

As she turned to leave, the fox trotted beside her. "Will you come back next week?" it asked. "There's so much more magic to find."

Lily smiled, patting her red hat. "Every single Saturday."

And from that day on, Lily still brought her phone—but only to take pictures of her real adventures with her magical friends.
