The Sphinx's Secret Riddle

Maya discovered something strange about her dad's old iPhone. When the sun hit it just right, tiny sparkles danced across the screen. One afternoon at the park, she held it up and gasped — through the camera, the ordinary water fountain became something extraordinary!

A golden sphinx no bigger than a teacup sat perched on the fountain's edge, its paws dipped in the flowing water. Maya zoomed in, feeling like a secret spy peeking into a magical world. The sphinx had emerald eyes that sparkled like stars and tiny wings that shimmered like soap bubbles.

"I've been waiting for someone kind enough to see me," the sphinx spoke, its voice like wind chimes. "I am Cleo, guardian of the Imagination Stream. This water carries dreams to children who believe in magic."

Maya's hands trembled. "But I can hear you without the iPhone."

"Ah," Cleo winked, "the phone only helps you spy with your eyes. Your heart sees what's real."

Celo told Maya that children had stopped believing in magic, so the Imagination Stream was drying up. "I need a brave friend to help me refill it with wonder."

Maya looked at the water, then at her school across the street. "My classmates would love this! But they're always so busy with screens and homework."

"Then bring them here," Cleo said. "But first, you must answer my riddle: What grows when you share it, but disappears when you keep it?"

Maya thought hard. She remembered sharing her lunch with a lonely boy yesterday, and how both their smiles had grown brighter. "Joy!" she exclaimed. "Happiness grows when shared!"

The sphinx beamed. "Correct!" The water suddenly glowed rainbow colors. "Now, bring your friends. Every child who believes will help refill the stream."

The next day, Maya brought her whole class. At first, they only saw a regular fountain. But when Maya told them to look with their hearts, one by one, they gasped in wonder. Soon, thirty children sat around the fountain, watching tiny sphinxes dance in the water's magic.

"We're all imagination spies now!" her friend Lucas laughed.

Celo winked at Maya. The water sparkled brighter than ever, carrying dreams to children everywhere. And whenever Maya looked at a phone now, she remembered: some magic can't be captured on screens — it lives in believing hearts and shared wonder.
