The Sphinx's Secret Riddle
Lily loved exploring her grandmother's overgrown garden, especially on warm Saturday mornings when the sun painted everything gold. That day, she discovered something extraordinary behind the ancient oak tree—a stone sphinx, no bigger than a cat, with emerald eyes that sparkled like tiny stars.
"You found me!" the sphinx chirped, stretching her paws. "I'm Cleopatra, the garden guardian. I've been waiting centuries for someone clever enough to solve my riddle."
Lily's heart danced with excitement. "I love riddles! What's the prize?"
Cleopatra's emerald eyes twinkled. "The legendary Sun Fruit—an orange so magical that one bite gives you the courage of ten lions. But first, you must answer: I wear a jacket of bright orange color, filled with tiny drops of sunshine power. Doctors say I'm full of vitamin C, the healthiest treasure you'll ever see. What am I?"
Lily thought hard. She knew about oranges from her breakfast table, and how her mom always said they kept her healthy. "An orange!"
"Correct!" Cleopatra cheered, and suddenly, the most beautiful orange Lily had ever seen appeared in the sphinx's paws. It glowed softly, like a tiny sun.
"But wait," Lily said. "If I eat this, won't I be taking something magical from your garden?"
Cleopatra smiled. "That's exactly why I chose you. The real magic isn't the fruit—it's having a kind heart. True courage comes from caring about others." She pushed the orange toward Lily. "Take it. Share it with someone who needs cheering up."
Lily bit into the orange. It was the sweetest thing she had ever tasted, filling her with warmth and happiness. She knew exactly who needed cheering up—her neighbor Mr. Chen, who hadn't smiled since his cat ran away.
That afternoon, Lily shared the magical orange with Mr. Chen. As they ate it together under his apple tree, he told her stories about his childhood cat. By sunset, he was laughing.
Sometimes the greatest adventures, Lily discovered, weren't about finding magical things. They were about sharing them—and that was the real vitamin her heart needed all along.
