The Sphinx's Secret Pool

Maya was exploring the woods behind her house when she spotted something extraordinary. A magnificent sphinx sat atop a mossy rock, but this wasn't like the sphinxes in her books. This one had wild, purple hair that shimmered like amethyst in the sunlight, and instead of guarding a pyramid, she was watching over a small, crystal-clear pool.

"Hello, little one," the sphinx said, her voice sounding like wind chimes. "I've been waiting for someone kind enough to find my secret pool."

Maya's eyes widened. "What makes it special?"

The sphinx smiled mysteriously. "Look closer."

Maya peered into the water. It wasn't clear at all—it was filled with glowing orange fruits that bobbed gently like magical lanterns. But these weren't ordinary oranges. Each one pulsed with golden light.

"These are sunrise oranges," the sphinx explained. "They grow only in this pool, and each one contains a special vitamin—one drop of pure joy."

"Joy?" Maya asked.

"Yes. You see, I was once a lonely sphinx who forgot how to play. These oranges remind me that happiness is meant to be shared." The sphinx plucked one from the water. "Would you like to try one?"

Maya nodded. The orange was warm in her hands, and when she took a bite, she felt a sparkle of warmth spread through her chest—like sunshine melting winter snow. Suddenly, she understood.

"I should share these with my friends!" Maya exclaimed. "My little brother Tommy has been sad because he's sick."

The sphinx's purple hair seemed to glow even brighter. "Exactly, dear child. The most powerful vitamin isn't found in pills—it's found in kindness. Now fill your basket, but remember: the magic only works when you give it away."

Maya gathered as many oranges as she could carry. As she ran home, the sphinx called after her, "Come back whenever you need more joy—there's plenty for everyone!"

That evening, Maya shared the magical oranges with Tommy and all the neighborhood children. Everyone who ate one found themselves laughing, playing, and feeling braver than before. And whenever Maya looked back toward the woods, she could see a faint purple glow through the trees—her friend the sphinx,守护着 her pool of happiness, ready to share joy with anyone kind enough to find it.
