The Sphinx's Secret Pool

Lily was **running** through the Whispering Woods, her golden retriever Max barking happily beside her. They played here every day after school, chasing butterflies and exploring hidden paths.

That afternoon, they discovered something magical—a crystal **pool** tucked between ancient trees, its water sparkling like diamonds. But what made Lily gasp was the creature sleeping beside it.

A magnificent **sphinx** with emerald-green feathers and paws like soft clouds opened one eye. 'Greetings, young adventurer,' she purred. 'I am Cleopatra, guardian of the Wish Pool. But I have been alone for three hundred years.'

A clever little **fox** with russet fur peeked out from behind a bush. Cleopatra sighed. 'Felix the fox visits daily, but he cannot make wishes. Only humans can.'

'What kind of wishes?' Lily asked, her eyes wide.

'Wishes that help others,' Cleopatra explained. 'The pool grants one wish each full moon, but it must be pure of heart.'

Lily thought hard. She could wish for infinite candy, or a castle, or to fly. But then she remembered Max, her loyal **dog** who comforted her when she was sad. And Felix, who looked so lonely even with the sphinx.

'I wish,' Lily said slowly, 'that Felix could speak, so he and Cleopatra could have proper conversations. Three hundred years is too long to be lonely.'

The pool glowed golden. Suddenly, Felix's eyes widened. 'Did I just—?' he said in amazement. 'I can speak!'

Cleopatra's wings fluttered with joy. 'Thank you, Lily. This is the greatest gift.'

'And thank you,' added Felix, 'for thinking of someone else first.'

Max wagged his tail as if he understood perfectly. As the sun set, Lily **running** home with the biggest smile ever, she knew the best magic wasn't about getting what you wanted—it was about giving others what they needed.
