The Sphinx's Secret Pool

Lily was playing by the old oak tree when she spotted the fox. His fur was bright orange like sunset, and he had the kindest eyes she'd ever seen. He winked at her, then trotted away toward the forest.

"Wait!" Lily called, chasing after him. "Where are you going?"

The fox stopped and looked back. "To the sphinx's secret pool. Want to come?"

Lily had never heard of a sphinx, but she loved adventures. She followed the fox deep into the woods until they reached a sparkling blue pool. In the middle sat a magnificent creature—the sphinx! She had the body of a lion and the face of a wise woman with golden wings.

"Welcome, young friend," the sphinx said gently. "I've been waiting for you."

"Waiting for me?" Lily asked, amazed.

"Yes. I need your help." The sphinx pointed to a shadowy corner of the pool. "My friend Zomby has forgotten who he is. He thinks he's a scary zombie, but really he's just a lonely cloud spirit who lost his sparkle."

Lily saw Zomby—a fluffy gray cloud creature slumped sadly by the water.

"How can I help?" Lily asked.

"By being my spy," said the fox. "Watch Zomby while we prepare the surprise."

Lily sat quietly, watching the cloud spirit. Then she saw something—when Zomby watched the dragonflies dance, he glowed faintly.

"He likes happy things!" Lily realized.

The sphinx smiled. "Then let's give him happy things."

They spent the afternoon swimming, playing games, and telling stories. With each laugh, Zomby glowed brighter. Soon he was sparkling like a star!

"I remember now!" Zomby cheered. "I'm a joy-bringing cloud!"

Lily learned that day that sometimes people just need friendship to remember how wonderful they really are. And every week, she returned to the pool to swim with her magical friends—creating joy wherever they went.
