The Sphinx's Secret Pool
Lily loved exploring her grandmother's attic. One rainy afternoon, she found something peculiar hiding behind an old trunk — a glowing golden sphinx statue, no bigger than her hand.
"Hello there," whispered the sphinx, opening one emerald eye. "I've been waiting for someone brave enough to find me."
Lily gasped. The sphinx stretched and grew until she was the size of a large cat, her wings shimmering like sunset.
"My name is Cleo," the sphinx said. "Would you like to see my secret swimming pool? It's hidden deep in the magical forest behind your grandmother's house."
Lily's eyes widened. She loved swimming! But she worried about her new iphone in her pocket. "I can't leave this behind," she said. "Mom might call."
Cleo smiled. "The magical waters protect precious things. Come along!"
They stepped out the back door and suddenly the world transformed. Ordinary trees became towering pillars covered in silver leaves. The path wound through flowers that hummed gentle melodies.
Suddenly, a clever fox appeared, his coat bright as autumn leaves. " travelers!" he announced. "I'm Felix. I know the way to Cleo's pool."
"We need his help," Cleo explained. "The forest changes paths every day."
As they walked, they heard grumbling ahead. A gentle brown bear sat on a rock, looking sad.
"What's wrong?" Lily asked.
"I'm Berrie," the bear sighed. "Everyone runs away when they see me. But I only want to share my honey."
Lily stepped forward bravely. "We won't run away, Berrie. Do you want to come swimming with us?"
Berrie's face lit up. "Really?"
Together — girl, sphinx, fox, and bear — they reached the secret pool. The water sparkled with tiny stars, and when Lily jumped in, she felt light as a feather. Her iphone stayed perfectly dry on a mossy stone, safe and sound.
They splashed and played until sunset. As they parted ways, Cleo whispered, "You taught us something important today, Lily. Friendship comes in all shapes and sizes. Never judge someone by how they look."
Lily hugged her new friends and ran back to grandmother's house, heart full of magic. The sphinx statue sat on the windowsill, winking as if sharing a wonderful secret.
